Caucasian Rugs
Most Caucasian rugs in existence today date from the second half of the 19th century. These rugs tend toward the abstract and geometric. Knotting is symmetrical with a medium density of knots. Among the best-known production areas and most popular types are the following, Baku, Daghestan, Gendje, Karabagh, Kazak, Shirvan, and Talish.
The name 'Oriental carpets' is usually referred to all hand-knotted carpets; since this denomination is not inexact in view of their common Asiatic origin. However, the immensity of the producing areas and the variety of techniques, styles, and materials used necessitate a detailed classification.
